Odisha Nurse Gets Florence Nightingale Award 2017

Odisha’s Krishna Kumari, a health worker belonging to Kukudakhandi Community Health Center (CHC), Ganjam District has been selected for ‘Florence Nightingale – 2017’ award to be presented by the President of India.  She was the only one from from Odisha among the 35 nurses chosen from all over India. She and the others were felicitated on 12th of May which is commemorated as International Nurses Day.  The award consists of a cheque of Rs. 50, 000/-, a citation, medal and a certificate.

Krishna Kumari had been working as a health worker in Kukudakhandi CHC for last 18 years. She is well known to patients and people who come their as Krishna Aka or Krishna Apa. Her presence in the CHC is like a balm for the patient and their family members as they know everything will be taken care of by their Krishna Apa.

Krishna Kumari said she would like to open a orphanage for the orphans of that area with the Rs. 50,000/- she got.
